About the Role:
As a Senior Attorney at OCRA, you’ll play a crucial role in advocating for the rights of intellectually and developmentally disabled Californians and their families. You’ll provide direct representation in administrative proceedings, develop resources and training materials, and offer expert guidance to other attorneys and advocates.
Your expertise in administrative hearings and your commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities will be instrumental in achieving justice and positive change.
Job Responsibilities:
- Advocacy (45%): Engage in substantive advocacy by representing clients in administrative hearings, including regional center, In-Home Supportive Services, Social Security, Medi-Cal, and Special Education hearings.
- Specialization and Technical Assistance (45%): Develop resources and provide training to OCRA staff on administrative hearing practice. Lead, mentor, and support less experienced attorneys and advocates. Collaborate with the management team on OCRA projects and initiatives.
- Community-based Advocacy (10%): Perform outreach and support efforts to reach underserved communities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- J.D. degree and active membership in the California State Bar, or eligibility to practice under the Registered Legal Services Attorney Program.
- Seven years of experience practicing law.
- Four years of experience in administrative hearings or civil litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate effectively.
- Expertise in one or more substantive areas of law relevant to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Working knowledge of disability rights laws in California.
- Strong sense of professional responsibility and ethics.
- Ability to meet deadlines and multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Fluency in Spanish or an Asian language.
- Experience providing training on various topics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software.
Benefits:
- Salary Range: $89,435 – $130,958 per year.
