Insider Tips for Applicants
Emphasize Your Dual Capability
This unique hybrid role requires both internal support skills and external hunting abilities. Demonstrate your versatility by providing specific examples of when you’ve successfully supported other sales professionals while also carrying your own quota. Explain how you balance these dual responsibilities, showing that you understand the role requires both collaborative team support and independent revenue generation, which is relatively uncommon in sales positions.
Showcase Your Retirement Plan Expertise
FuturePlan requires comprehensive knowledge of 401(k), 403(b), defined benefit, and cash balance plans, plus understanding of IRS and ERISA regulations. Even if you’re still developing expertise in some plan types, demonstrate your foundation in retirement plan administration, compliance requirements, and fiduciary responsibilities. Provide examples of complex plan designs you’ve worked with or regulatory challenges you’ve navigated, showing your ability to serve as a trusted advisor to financial professionals.
Demonstrate Financial Advisor Relationship Skills
Since 50% of the role involves directly selling to financial advisors in your territory, emphasize your experience building and maintaining advisor relationships. Share specific examples of how you’ve earned advisor trust, demonstrated competitive advantages in crowded markets, and collaborated with DCIO firms or wholesalers. FuturePlan advisors need consultants who can speak their language and understand the dynamics of advisor practices, so showcase this specialized relationship-building capability.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the 50/50 split between BDC and RVP responsibilities actually work?
This hybrid structure means you’ll spend approximately half your time supporting Regional Vice Presidents by coordinating proposals, conducting presentations, managing pipeline, and facilitating sales processes (BDC role), while the other half involves actively prospecting, building your own advisor relationships, and closing deals with your own sales target (RVP role). This provides excellent training and exposure to different aspects of retirement plan sales while allowing you to build your own book of business simultaneously.
What is the territory for this New York-based position?
The position is listed as “Remote, New York,” indicating your territory likely covers New York state or a region including New York. While you can work remotely, the role requires building relationships with financial advisors in your assigned geography, which may involve occasional in-person meetings, advisor visits, or industry events in your region. Specific territory boundaries and expectations should be clarified during the interview process.
What are the internet and workspace requirements for this remote position?
Ascensus requires an uninterrupted virtual workspace with family care in place during business hours, plus internet speeds of 25 Mbps or better for individual use (stronger if multiple people share the connection). You’ll need a professional home office environment suitable for client calls and video meetings. These requirements ensure you can effectively perform both the internal coordination work and external sales activities that comprise this hybrid role.
