The Administration Reporting Lead Role in Today’s Remote Work Market
Business intelligence and data analytics roles have become increasingly remote-friendly as companies recognize that reporting and visualization work can be performed effectively from anywhere with proper data access and collaboration tools. The telecommunications and network infrastructure sector in particular has embraced remote work for analytical positions, as BI professionals need access to systems and data rather than physical presence in specific locations. Reporting leads who combine technical proficiency in tools like Power BI and SQL with domain knowledge in network operations or telecommunications are highly sought after, especially as fiber-optic companies like Metronet rapidly expand their infrastructure and need data-driven insights to optimize operations and guide strategic decisions.
Administration Reporting Leads and Business Intelligence Analysts in the telecommunications sector typically earn between $70K-$100K annually depending on experience level, technical skills, and geographic market, with opportunities for annual bonuses adding significant additional compensation. The role offers excellent career growth potential as organizations increasingly rely on data analytics for decision-making, with paths leading to senior analyst positions, BI architect roles, or data science specializations. The combination of technical skills (SQL, Power BI, Python) with business acumen and industry knowledge creates strong job security and advancement opportunities. As fiber-optic infrastructure continues expanding nationwide and network complexity increases, demand for professionals who can translate network performance data into actionable insights will continue growing robustly.
Insider Tips for Applicants
Showcase Your Power BI and Visualization Expertise
Since this role centers on creating reports and dashboards with Power BI and Grafana, your application must demonstrate strong visualization capabilities beyond basic charting. Include specific examples of dashboards you’ve built, emphasizing complex data models, DAX formulas you’ve created, and how your visualizations drove business decisions. If you have a portfolio of dashboard examples (even anonymized screenshots), reference these in your application or be prepared to share during interviews. Discuss your approach to dashboard design—how you balance aesthetics with functionality, ensure performance with large datasets, and create intuitive user experiences. Metronet needs someone who can make complex network performance data accessible to diverse stakeholders, so show that you understand visualization best practices and can tell compelling stories with data.
Demonstrate Automation and Efficiency Mindset
The role specifically mentions workflow automation using PowerApps and Power Automate, plus supporting network automation with Python. Highlight any experience you have automating repetitive reporting tasks, creating self-service analytics solutions, or building workflows that reduce manual effort. Discuss specific automation projects where you’ve improved efficiency—perhaps you automated a daily report that previously required manual compilation, created PowerApps forms that streamlined data collection, or wrote Python scripts that process network logs automatically. Metronet is growing rapidly and needs people who can scale operations through automation rather than just adding manual processes. Show that you proactively identify opportunities for automation and have the technical skills to implement solutions.
Bridge Technical and Business Communication
This position requires collaboration with Network Engineering, IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders—each with different technical literacy levels and priorities. Your application should demonstrate your ability to gather requirements from engineers who speak in technical specs, translate those into clear visualizations for executives making business decisions, and document solutions for both end users and developers. Provide examples of times you’ve successfully bridged technical and business worlds—perhaps explaining complex data models to non-technical stakeholders or translating vague business requirements into specific technical implementations. Metronet needs someone who can navigate these different perspectives effectively and ensure reporting solutions meet everyone’s needs while maintaining technical accuracy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need specific experience in telecommunications or fiber-optic networks?
While telecommunications or network operations experience would certainly be beneficial and help you understand the domain context quickly, it’s not explicitly stated as a requirement. The more critical requirements are strong technical skills in SQL, Power BI, Grafana, and workflow automation tools, combined with analytical capabilities and ability to work with technical teams. If you have reporting or BI experience in other infrastructure-heavy industries (utilities, manufacturing, logistics, IT operations), you likely have transferable skills. However, demonstrating curiosity about how network infrastructure operates and willingness to learn telecommunications concepts would strengthen your application. During the interview process, you can ask about onboarding resources and knowledge transfer processes to understand how they help new team members get up to speed on network operations concepts.
What does “managing project intake and prioritization” involve in this role?
Project intake and prioritization refers to managing the flow of reporting requests, dashboard needs, and automation projects coming from various departments. This likely involves using Jira or similar tools to track incoming requests, working with stakeholders to understand urgency and business value, documenting requirements clearly, estimating effort required, and helping leadership prioritize which projects should be tackled first based on impact and resources available. You’ll essentially serve as the coordination point between teams requesting reporting solutions and the technical capacity to deliver them. This requires organizational skills, diplomacy in managing expectations when resources are constrained, and ability to communicate realistic timelines. If you have experience managing a backlog of work requests, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, or triaging incoming work based on business priorities, mention these during the interview as relevant experience.
Will I be expected to do hands-on network engineering or just reporting?
Based on the job description, this is primarily a reporting and data analytics role rather than hands-on network engineering. However, you’ll be supporting network automation initiatives using Python and JSON, which means you need to understand how network automation works conceptually and be able to work with data from automation platforms like Itential. You won’t be configuring routers or managing network infrastructure directly, but you’ll be analyzing network performance data, creating reports on equipment capacity and network health, and potentially building dashboards that help network engineers monitor their systems. Think of it as being the data layer that enables network teams to make better decisions, rather than being responsible for the network infrastructure itself. Your Python skills will likely be used for data processing, automation scripts, and integration work rather than network programming.
